Community Development & Block Grant Program

The Keene Housing Authority administers the Community Development Block Grant Program for the City of Keene.

KHA has prepared and administered all CDBG applications and projects for the City of Keene since 1982. In addition, it has occasionally written and administered CDBG grants for Cheshire County.

KHA projects have made Keene one of the most successful NH communities in obtaining CDBG funds:

  • $9 million in total CDBG funds

  • 5 housing projects

  • 13 social service projects

  • 9 economic development projects

  • 4 feasibility studies

Housing projects:

  • Part of the cost of Central Square Terrace elderly housing

  • Rehab loan program to private landlords and homeowners

  • Affordable housing projects for Cheshire Housing Trust

  • Rehabilitation of group homes, and transitional housing.

  • The project now underway is a 19-unit rooming house.

Social service projects:

  • Construction of an infant-toddler center

  • Rehab of Head Start center

  • Acquisition and rehab of center for children under 3 with disabilities

  • Rehab of Senior Center

  • Kitchen, dining room and pantry for community kitchen

  • CAP offices

  • A project now underway is the relocation of two brick buildings for use at elderly housing.

Economic development projects:

  • Improvements in Krif Road Industrial park leading to construction of four manufacturing facilities

  • Improvements in Black Brook corporate park leading to construction of four manufacturing facilities.

  • Construction of four manufacturing facilities totaling almost 100,000 s.f.

  • Three loans to private companies for expansion.

  • Rehab of major downtown commercial/residential building.
